Dr. Barry Miller After serving as Chief Medical Resident in the specialty of Internal Medicine in 1986, Dr. Miller entered private practice in Flint, Michigan and, at the same time, became the Medical Director of the McLaren Weight Management Center. In 1994, Dr. Miller was asked by Sandoz Nutrition (which is now Novartis Nutrition Corporation) to become one of their two consultants, as Medical Director, for the OPTIFAST^® programs established throughout the United States. Dr. Miller held this position until December 2006.

During his tenure as Medical Director for Novartis Nutrition, Dr. Miller provided medical training in obesity management to physicians who were starting their careers in bariatric medicine and consultations regarding weight loss treatment techniques to established bariatricians using the OPTIFAST^® program. In September of 2004, Dr. Miller acquired the Center for Weight Management from McLaren Regional Medical Center. The IMC Center for Nutrition & Weight Management is a completely separate entity from Dr. Miller's Internal Medicine practice, but it is housed within the same building so he can be equally attentive to both of these specialties.

Currently, Dr. Miller is taking the IMC Center for Nutrition & Weight Management over the threshold of a new treatment approach in cooperation with his position as consultant with Neuroscience, Inc. This new company offers physicians the opportunity to evaluate patients' brain neurotransmitter levels and detect imbalances. Neurotransmitters are chemicals found in the brain that regulate metabolic rate, appetite, emotion, and hormonal conditions. If, for any reason, the brain's neurotransmitters are not functioning properly, it causes a ripple effect throughout the entire body. Neurotransmitter imbalances and malfunctions contribute to food cravings, altered metabolism, disordered sleep, emotional instability, and many other problems.

Dr. Miller is a member of two professional organizations devoted to the study and treatment of obesity: the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO) and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP). He has lectured extensively on various topics pertaining to the development of the disease of obesity, obesity treatment, and a multitude of related topics.

With his staff of healthcare professionals at the IMC Center for Nutrition & Weight Management, Dr. Miller has a twenty-year history of serving the people of Genesee County. He has proven his commitment to providing patients who struggle to control their weight with ethical and effective treatment. Dr. Miller looks forward to even greater improvements in the treatment of obesity and to providing these new techniques to the patients treated at the Center.
